Originally built in 1976 and running for 30 years, the Eden Theatre underwent a major overhaul in 2005. The restoration has brought the theater steadily into the 21st century while preserving its historic charm. As the theatre continues to be upgraded, Cadac's new CDC 7 has also recently been installed in the UK for the first time.
The Eden Theatre in Inverness, Scotland, sits in a wonderful spot on the banks of the River Ness, almost part of the scenery itself. Eden has become the largest arts complex in the Scottish Highlands since Robertson Architecture and PP Architects completed a complete renovation and extension ten years ago. There are two theatres, the Empire Theatre and the One Point Theatre, two cinemas and two dance studios, meeting rooms and a stage in the bar.

Watt is the technical director in charge of all the technical requirements for these areas. He has been in the theater for 31 years and knows his business very well. Managing a team of five on a daily basis, he says that as a receptionist, a typical day is "coming in, setting up, playing and leaving, but there are also longer jobs such as ballet, opera and West End musical Tours. If the show requires a resident to provide technical support, we design and operate the lighting and sound. I also work on rota, maintenance, health and safety, and organizing and scheduling technical specifications for upcoming shows. "Obviously, in a venue that is so heavily used, it is important that technology is constantly updated.
The most recent piece to be updated is a sound mixer. The existing one had reached the end of its life, so Watt set out on a hunt for a replacement. "I went to Scarborough with CADAC and the audio company to see a demo of the CDC 6," he says. "After that, over the course of a year, I evaluated in the market and did what I described as an in-house demo of the four major stations brand. Nothing else can match the sound quality of the Cadac."
Due to the time constraints of Watt's decision, the manufacturer produced a new CDC 7 for him. Eden became the first venue to install CDC 7, a landmark project for both the theatre and Cadac. "I'm proud to use the first CDC 7 in our facility. Classic brand." Compared to the CDC 6, the CDC 7 has two screens and an increased number of faders -- 36 stereo code tables in total -- and 96 inputs. It also remains user-friendly compared to its predecessor, but gives users the luxury of a physically expanded interface. "It sounds great, it's very consistent, and you connect it to the music and it's very fast. In addition, I would like to thank the CADAC people in particular for their assistance in the installation. His knowledge of products and aftersales is fantastic." The new CDC 7 works perfectly with the existing audio system.
